Can we talk about how my prompt about a lost dog turned into a 12 page outline?
Sat down at 9pm Tuesday with a simple prompt about a guy searching for his missing beagle and somehow by 1am I had a whole backstory for every neighbor on the block. I keep doing this, taking a small idea and bloating it until the actual story never gets written, which is why I have 6 unfinished drafts sitting in a folder called "someday." Does anyone else have a rule for when to stop expanding and just start writing the scene?

When was the last time you actually finished one of those drafts instead of adding more neighbors to the block? And whats different about the beagle story that made you stop and post about it?

That "six drafts, zero endings" thing you mentioned back in March says a lot, and I went back and checked your post history. The beagle one is the first time you actually sat in one moment long enough to write past the setup, so what changed there, was it the dog itself or something about the day?
