Hot take: those 'free' writing prompt generators are actually useless

I tried using one for a week to kickstart a fantasy story and every prompt was something like 'a wizard loses his hat'. Realized I just need to steal ideas from real life instead. Anyone else find better luck with real-world observations?

I get what you're saying, but I've had the opposite experience with them. They always spit out something so generic or weird that it just kills my momentum instead of helping. I've tried a few and ended up staring at the screen even longer trying to fix the bad ideas they gave me. I'd rather just stare at a blank page and write something terrible on my own than fight with a generator's nonsense.

Wait, "a wizard loses his hat" is an actual prompt you got?
