I cracked up when a weather report inspired our writing circle's best story

In my experience, writing prompts can pop up in the weirdest places, but last month, my local writing group had a truly funny moment. We were meeting at the park, and a sudden rainstorm sent us scrambling into a nearby bus shelter. To pass the time, our group leader pointed at the pouring rain and said, 'Okay, use this as a prompt: make the weather a person.' What followed was a bunch of silly stories, like a fog that was really shy and a thunderstorm that just wanted to be a poet. The best one was from a friend who wrote about a sunbeam who got lost and ended up in a coffee shop, trying to order a latte. It was so absurd that we all laughed for a good ten minutes. Your mileage may vary, but I find that these unplanned, everyday things can turn into the best writing sparks. Take this with a grain of salt, but maybe try looking at boring stuff around you for your next prompt.

That lost sunbeam in a coffee shop is hilarious, what did it do after it got its latte?

Ever notice how we give little moments like that a whole story? We do it all the time with random stuff.
