Pro tip: That screenwriting professor who said to outline first was absolutely right after I wasted 3 months on a script that went nowhere.

I ignored his advice, jumped straight into writing a 120-page first draft without any structure, and ended up with a mess that took 6 more months to fix has anyone else had a teacher give advice that sounded boring but turned out to be gold?

Fixed the mess by using the outline as a roadmap to chop and rearrange scenes. The bones were solid once I knew where they needed to go.

Did you ever try just fixing that draft instead of starting from scratch? Sometimes the mess has the best ideas buried in it lol.
