Showerthought: I had to pick between a 'haunted house' or 'haunted person' prompt for my writing group.

I went with the haunted person, focusing on a character who carries a ghost from their old apartment, and it sparked way more personal, creepy stories than the generic house ever would. The group ended up discussing emotional baggage versus literal spooks for a full hour. What's a more unique horror prompt you've used that really worked?

Oh man, that's such a good idea. I did something like that once, where the prompt was just "the monster is right, actually." It made everyone write from the villain's point of view, or about a curse that the main character really deserved. It got way more messed up and interesting than another "something in the woods" story. That personal angle just hits different, you know? It sticks with you way longer than a jump scare.

Ever try writing from the monster's view and just end up making it sound whiny? I feel like I'd mess that up, @danielowens. Those personal horror stories really do get under your skin though, don't they?

Remember that story about the guy who got haunted by his old alarm clock? What if the monster's just tired of the same old routine too?
