The 1940 census detail that broke my historical fantasy plot

I was researching a story set in rural Ohio and found out that in the 1940 census, over 90% of farms in places like Sandusky County still had no electricity. My whole premise about a town rallying around a new radio station fell apart because nobody could even plug one in until the R.E.A. ran lines in '47. Anyone else hit a real world fact that forced them to completely scrap an outline for a time period piece?
