Finally broke 700 on my credit score after 3 years of work

I checked my FICO score this morning and it hit 702 after sitting at 640 for forever. I paid down a $1,200 balance on an old store card and it pushed me over the edge. Anyone else have a small victory like this recently?

Breaking 700 is for sure a good milestone, but I'd be careful giving a single card payment all the credit. Your mileage may vary, but I've seen people get trapped thinking one move fixes everything when other factors are still weighing them down.

Dylan, you're spot on about not giving one card all the credit. For me, it was paying off a small store card that finally pushed me over 700, but I also had to fix a few other things like keeping my oldest account active and not applying for new credit too often. That single payment helped, but it was really a bunch of small habits adding up over a few months. What other stuff do you think people overlook when they're trying to boost their score?

Love that feeling of finally breaking through, it's like the universe giving you a little nod that you're doing something right. Makes me think about how we spend so much time chasing these big goals but it's usually the small stuff like paying off a single card that actually moves the needle.
