I finally stopped paying for credit monitoring services after my score dropped 40 points anyway

I used to pay $30 a month for a fancy credit monitoring service, but after it dropped my score 40 points for no clear reason last month, I just switched to the free ones from my bank. Has anyone else found the paid stuff is actually worse than just checking Credit Karma?

Agree completely, the paid monitoring is a total scam... I signed up for one of those and my score dropped 35 points a week later for absolutely no reason. Switched to my bank's free alerts and honestly they're way more clear about what's actually going on.

Lol is a 40 point drop really that big a deal though?

40 points is a huge deal if you're about to apply for a mortgage or car loan. That can swing your rate by a full percentage point or more. Cost you thousands over the loan's life. The paid monitoring stuff isn't the problem either, it's usually just pulling a different score model than your bank's free one.
