My credit score dropped 40 points because of a medical bill I never saw
Last month I checked my credit and saw a 40 point drop out of nowhere. Turns out a doctors visit from 3 years ago got sent to collections even though I never got a single bill in the mail. It was for a $200 lab test that my insurance supposedly didnt cover. I called the collection agency and they said they sent it to my old address which I had updated with the doctor. Has anyone else had luck getting these removed without just paying them off?

Dispute it directly with the credit bureaus first, don't just pay it.

My 60 year old self was ALWAYS just "pay it and move on" until my brother got stuck with a fake $200 medical bill on his report last year. The bureaus actually removed it in 3 weeks after he documented everything, total game changer for me.
