My credit score dropped 40 points overnight because of a medical bill I forgot about

That urgent care visit from 2022 finally hit my credit report last month after they sent it to collections without warning me first. I paid it off same day but the damage was already done. Has anyone successfully disputed a medical collection after paying it?

nah my buddy had the same thing happen, an old er bill popped up and nuked his score out of nowhere. he paid it immediately but then disputed it as paid and said he never got any notice before collections, and it actually got removed from all three bureaus after about a month. definitely worth trying even after paying, worst they say is no.

Yeah, my credit score's taken more surprise hits than I have in a pickup basketball game.

Jumped right into this myself a few months ago with an old phone bill I didn't even know about. Paid it, disputed it saying I never got a single letter or call first, and it wiped clean off my report in like three weeks. Feels like half the stuff that hits our credit reports now is just automated garbage that gets sent to collections without anyone actually trying to contact us first. It's almost like the whole system is set up to trip people up over small debts they'd happily pay if they just knew about them. Definitely worth filing that dispute online even after you've paid, worst case they say no and you're exactly where you are now.
