My uncle told me to close a card I never used and my score dropped 40 points
Back in March my uncle, who works at a bank in Toledo, told me to close my oldest credit card since I never used it. He said it was dead weight and would only tempt me into debt. I closed it, and my score fell from 748 to 708 in about 6 weeks. Turns out that card was 9 years old and was keeping my average account age up. Has anyone else gotten bad advice from someone who should know better?
