Question about a weird credit card pitch I got at a gas station
I was filling up my car in Bakersfield last Tuesday when a guy at the next pump started telling me how he got a $10,000 limit on a new card just by asking for it. He said he did it while his score was still in the low 600s, which seems off to me. Has anyone else had a stranger give them credit advice that sounded too good to be true?

Happens all the time, I mean people love giving out financial tips like they're experts. Maybe it's just me but I get the weirdest advice in parking lots.

Remember my friend got cornered by a guy in a grocery store parking lot who insisted she needed a "secret" high interest loan to build credit. She was just trying to load her groceries! Totally get what @skylerb53 means about the magic fixes. It's wild where these self made experts pop up. She smiled, said thanks, and drove off feeling super weird about the whole thing.

Honestly that guy was probably trying to sell you on a shady credit repair service. Tbh I get the worst life advice from random dudes at gas stations, like how to invest in gold or cure a cold with vinegar. Ngl if someone offers you a magic fix for your credit score while you're pumping gas, just nod and get back in your car. Sounds like a great way to end up with a hard inquiry and no new card.
