A security guy at a conference in Reno told me to skip password managers, and I listened for two years
Two years ago at a small security meetup in Reno, a guy with 20 years in the field told me password managers were a single point of failure and I should just memorize strong passwords. I bought it because he seemed sharp. So I used maybe 6 passwords for about 40 accounts and felt fine. Then a site I signed up for back in 2019 got breached and my email plus that reused password showed up on a lookup site. Nothing got hacked, but I spent a weekend resetting 30-something logins and yelling at my laptop. I set up a manager after that and my only regret is the two years I wasted thinking I was too smart for one. Anyone else get talked out of a basic tool by someone who sounded like they knew better?
