Ditched password managers for a hardware key last month
Used LastPass for years. Then their breach happened in 2022. Lost trust completely. Now I use a YubiKey for everything important. Took 2 days to set up across my accounts but zero phishing worries now. Any of you made the switch to physical keys?

Just to be clear, hardware keys don't replace password managers entirely. They handle two-factor authentication and can do passwordless login on some sites, but you still need something to manage all those random passwords for accounts that don't support them yet. I tried going full YubiKey last year and had to keep a backup password manager for like half my logins. It's a great extra layer for sure, just not a total replacement. Took me a while to figure out the difference.

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing with smart home stuff actually. Everyone talks about dumping every single device into one hub or app, but half my plugs and lights use different protocols and just won't talk to each other. Ended up keeping two separate apps on my phone cause replacing everything would cost a fortune. It's like every piece of tech promises to be the one solution and then you find out the hard way it only works with about 60 percent of what you own. From my experience, the "all in one" thing is more of a long term goal than something you actually get to right now.

Ended up doing the same thing with my Google Home and a cheap Zigbee hub, kept a couple of devices on their own apps cause they just wouldn't play nice together. Feels like you gotta pick which walled garden you hate least instead of actually getting one system that works.
