How I used to treat every email attachment like it was safe, now I scan everything even from friends
My buddy Mike sent me a PDF last Tuesday that he said had his new business card design. I opened it without thinking and my whole system got hit with that ransomware that encrypts everything. Lost about 3 hours of work before I realized what happened. Now I refuse to open anything without checking it first, even if it comes from people I know. Has anyone else had a close call like that from a trusted contact?

Friends' accounts get compromised all the time. That's how most malware spreads now actually. Better safe than sorry with everything.

Yeah, "better safe than sorry" - my password is literally "password123" so I guess I'm already living on the edge. But honestly, my friend clicked a link that said "free iPhone" and next thing I know her account is sending everyone crypto spam. So maybe being safe is better than having your digital life ruined over a fake phone.
