I was reading an old report from the FBI's internet crime center and saw that phishing scams cost people over $52 million in just one year, which blew my mind.

Yeah, my cousin lost a few grand to one last year.

Tell me about it. My aunt almost fell for that "your grandson is in jail" phone scam last month. She was about to wire money before my cousin, like @the_olivia's, called her and stopped it. These scammers are getting way too good at sounding real.

What finally got through to my grandma was making a family password. We told her if anyone calls asking for money or saying we're in trouble, she has to ask for the word. No word, no talk. It sounds simple but it gives her a clear rule to follow when she's feeling panicked.
