Appreciation post: I send a follow-up email the same day a client says 'the deadline moved up,' and it has kept me out of trouble twice this month
I used to just say 'ok no problem' and then pull a 14 hour night to hit the new date. That worked until a client in Tampa moved a Friday deadline to Tuesday on me and I missed it by three hours. Now the first thing I do is reply in writing with the new date, what I can actually finish by then, and what has to wait. It sounds simple but saying it back on paper (in an email, not a call) took the guesswork out of it. Two weeks ago a client tried to push a Wednesday deadline to Monday and my reply bought me two extra days. Does anyone else put the new plan in writing before you agree, or do you just say yes and figure it out later?
