Burned a pancake breakfast for 20 clients because I took on a rush edit job at 6am

I was in my kitchen in Portland last month, trying to flip pancakes for a client appreciation thing I do every quarter. My phone dinged with an email from a regular client - they needed a 2,000 word blog post rewritten and published by 9am. I thought I could multitask. Next thing I know, the smoke alarm is going off and the pancakes are black. I had to cancel the breakfast, order donuts from a shop down the street, and still barely made the deadline. Has anyone else had a side project blow up their whole morning routine like that?

Multitasking and pancakes don't mix, who knew? Your clients got a downgrade from homemade breakfast to store bought donuts, but hey, at least they got fed and your blog post got done. Next time just toss the pancake mix in the trash at the first email ping. Really though, your morning routine is a perfect cautionary tale about trying to be a hero at 6am. Maybe pre-make the batter the night before so you can just pour and flip without thinking? At least the smoke alarm is a good way to wake people up.

Honestly, @patricia_hill60, I learned that lesson the hard way too, just prep the batter night before and save yourself the smoke show.
