Double-booking my own calendar saved me from a 2-day panic

Last month a client pushed a report deadline up by 48 hours and I had three other projects stacked. I started blocking out fake slots in my own schedule, like 9-11 AM for 'revisions' and 3-4 PM for 'admin', so I couldn't overpromise new work. It forced me to break the rush job into 90 minute chunks and actually finish the draft by Thursday night instead of staring at the screen. The trick was treating those blocks like real appointments, not flexible ideas. Has anyone else tried this or do you just raw dog the chaos and hope for the best?

The 'fake slots' thing sounds silly at first, and honestly I used to think blocking time was just busywork for people who can't handle pressure. But treating those blocks like real meetings instead of suggestions actually rewired how I work, it forced me to commit to the small steps instead of wandering around in the panic fog. I still hate the idea of lying to myself on the calendar, but now I do it every week just to keep the chaos from eating the actual deadlines.
