Had to choose between two rush jobs last Thursday, picked the $200 one over the $500 one

Got a call from a regular client wanting a logo revision by Friday. At the same time, a new client offered me a big brochure layout for triple the money. I took the logo job because I know that regular pays steady and the brochure seemed risky. Finished the logo in two hours, invoiced, and then the brochure client emailed saying they needed it done by Monday. So I lost out on that extra cash. Anyone else turn down bigger pay to keep a reliable client happy?

Turn down bigger pay to keep a reliable client happy" oh you mean like setting money on fire and calling it a loyalty tax? I once said no to a $600 website job to help a regular with a $150 flyer because I felt bad saying no. Then the regular took three months to pay me while the website guy hired someone else and made bank. So yeah, you picked the safe bet and got a pat on the back while the other guy is probably on a beach right now. But hey, at least you didn't have to deal with a new client who might've been a total headache, right?

Right move, loyalty really paid off with that three-month wait. Hope that pat on the back covered the late fees.

@colegarcia's right though, that $600 guy is definitely on a beach right now.
