Hot take: last Tuesday was the worst 14 hours of my freelancing life and I kind of needed it
So last Tuesday I had three projects due and the whole thing fell apart in one day, and honestly I'm still weirdly glad it did. First, a guy I've worked with since 2022 texted me at 6:45am asking if we could move his Friday deadline to that same afternoon because his boss was flying to Denver the next morning. Then my other regular hit me around 10am saying the whole launch got pushed up a week, so a project I had planned for 6 days now had to be done by Thursday. I spent 14 hours at my desk in Kansas City, ate a cold burrito standing up, and shipped two of the three things by 11pm while the third got a one day extension. The funny part is nothing actually broke, I just found out I can do 5 days of work in 14 hours when I stop refreshing my phone every 10 minutes. It sucked the whole time I was in it, but now I know my real limit instead of guessing at it. What's the shortest amount of time you've ever turned a whole project around after a deadline got yanked forward?
