My client moved a due date from next month to Friday, and I saw a 3 day meltdown turn into a 3 hour fix
Two months ago I had a big design job due on the 15th, and on the 8th the guy emails to say he needs it by Friday, which was 3 days away. I freaked out, pulled two all nighters, made dumb mistakes, and turned in junk. He was mad, I was mad, it was a mess. Then it happened again on a different job about 5 weeks later, same thing, deadline cut from 3 weeks to 4 days. This time I tried something different. I didn't panic. I just opened a doc, listed the 3 things that had to be done no matter what, did those first, and left the rest half finished. I sent it over with a note saying here's the core, the rest comes Monday. He said fine. So now I'm stuck between two ideas. One, you fight every deadline change and hold the line on the original date. Two, you just give them the bones of it and let the extras slide. I have no clue which one is right. What do you all do when the date gets chopped in half?
