Serious question, is it fair to charge rush rates when the client's own delay causes the rush?
Was in a coworking space in Austin last Tuesday and overheard two freelancers going at it. One said he always adds 50% when a deadline gets moved up, no matter whose fault it was. The other said he only charges extra if he has to drop other paying work to make it happen. If the client sits on feedback for 2 weeks and then suddenly needs it in 48 hours, is that automatically on them? Or does the freelancer own part of it for not setting a harder cutoff? I've been on both sides of this and still can't land on a rule that feels fair. What do you all do when the timeline shrinks because they dragged their feet?
