That quick client 'feedback' turned into 14 hours of rewriting

I had a client say they just needed 'a few small tweaks' to a landing page copy last Thursday. I figured 30 minutes tops. Turns out their 'tweaks' meant rewriting the whole value proposition section because they pivoted their target audience. It took me from 2 PM until 4 AM the next day to get it done. Has anyone else had a client call a full rewrite 'minor edits' and how do you even budget for that?

Same thing happened last year when a client's "tiny tweak" turned into 12 hours of rewriting their sales page.

Maybe the client paid for flexibility and you should've charged more upfront for that possibility.

Ask if they put a cap on revision hours in the contract.
