TIL a client's 'quick tweak' means 3 days of unpaid work, not 20 minutes

Last Tuesday a long-time client asked for a 'tiny wording change' on a landing page, said it would take me 20 minutes. Turns out they wanted the whole tone shifted, plus new screenshots, plus a version for their affiliate partners. I quoted my usual hourly rate and they laughed, said they assumed this was covered under the original retainer. I spent 6 hours on it anyway, delivered it Friday, and now I'm wondering if I should have just said no. Has anyone else had a client redefine 'small edit' after you've already started? How do you handle the scope creep without burning the bridge?
