Vent: client moved a deadline up 9 days and a 20 year old trick saved me
A regular moved my Friday deadline to Wednesday morning, and I was staring at 4 half-done spreadsheets on a Tuesday night in my kitchen in Portland. Out of pure panic I remembered something a boss showed me back in my retail days: block the work, not the hours, so I wrote the 3 ugliest tasks on sticky notes, did them first, and ended up turning everything in 2 hours early. Does anyone else have one of those old tricks from a totally different job that still somehow works when a deadline gets yanked?
Wait, you finished 2 hours early just from sticky notes? That seems too easy. Was the deadline really that scary or were you just putting off the boring stuff all week?
