Am I the only one who thinks a cleaning at the dentist is a total waste compared to the deep cleaning
I used to book a regular cleaning every 6 months like clockwork. Then about a year ago my hygienist in Sacramento showed me the gum measurements on my chart. I had 4 spots in the 5 to 6mm range and I had no clue. The regular cleaning does nothing for those pockets. It just polishes what you can see. The deep cleaning with the scaling under the gum line is what actually stops the damage. I get that it costs way more and the numbing shots are no fun. But a $150 polish twice a year while my gums quietly recede is not prevention, it is a photo op. Everyone I know treats the basic cleaning as the gold standard and the deep cleaning as the upsell. I think it is backwards. Anyone else have a dentist walk them through the pocket numbers and feel like they were sold a bill of goods for years?
4 spots in the 5 to 6mm range and nobody told you for years? That is wild. My mind is blown that they just keep polishing away while your gums are basically pulling back from your teeth. The fact that you had to be shown your own chart to find out is what gets me. Like, they had the numbers the whole time and just sat on them. That $150 polish being called prevention is a joke if the real problem is under the gum where you can't even see it.
