Ceramic brackets vs. metal on the bottom arch, night and day difference

I got ceramic on top and metal on the bottom six months ago at SmileWorks in Austin. The ceramics looked great but they chipped twice and the ligatures stained yellow by week three. The metal ones on the bottom have been tougher and I don't even notice them anymore. Plus my orthodontist said the metal brackets let her adjust the wire faster each visit. Has anyone else mixed bracket types and found the cheaper option actually outperformed the fancy one?

Ugh, that sucks about the ceramics chipping. I feel your pain, seriously. I did the same thing last year and the top ones looked so nice in photos but I was so paranoid about eating anything crunchy. The staining drove me nuts too, I basically lived on white tea and still got yellow ties. Sounds like your ortho has a good system though, mixing them. I'm honestly tempted to just switch to all metal next time I get braces, if I ever have to do this again. It's wild how the cheaper option is the one that's been more chill for you.
