Hot take: switching from an electric brush to a soft manual one fixed my gums more than any fancy toothpaste
My hygienist in Portland kept pushing me toward a $120 electric brush, so I bought one and used it for 4 months, and my gums bled worse than ever. I went back and a different hygienist asked how hard I was pressing, and it hit me that the brush was doing all the work while I was jamming it into my gumline. I switched to a $3 soft manual brush from the grocery store and started using tiny circles, and at my 6 month cleaning the bleeding was gone and my pockets went from 4mm back down to 2mm. Now I'm wondering if anyone else got pushed into an electric brush and did worse on it than a cheap soft one?

Switched to a soft manual brush after my electric one left my gums sore for weeks, and the bleeding stopped in about a month. Turns out I was pressing way too hard because the brush felt like it wasn't doing enough on its own. Brushing softer with a cheap brush beat the expensive one for me too.
