My crown popped off eating a Snickers and I had to pick between a same day crown or the old two visit kind
I was at my desk in Tampa on a Tuesday when the molar crown my dentist put in 6 years ago came off in a Snickers. My regular guy wanted $1,400 for a lab made crown over two visits, but the place down the street offered a milled same day one for $950, so I went with that. The fit felt a little tight for the first week but it settled in fine, and honestly not having a temporary or a second numbing shot was the best part. Has anyone here had a same day crown last more than 5 years, or do they tend to fail sooner than the lab ones?
I've had two same day crowns, one on a lower left molar from 2019. Still holding up fine, bite feels normal. The key is the dentist doing it, not the machine. If they shape it right and check your bite before you leave, it lasts. My first one came from a guy in Clearwater who rushed it and I was back in his chair two weeks later getting it redone. So ask how long they've been doing same day work, that matters more than the price gap.
