Switched from a manual brush to a $30 electric one for 60 days and my hygienist noticed at the cleaning
I put off buying an electric toothbrush for a long time because I figured my arm did the same job for way less money. Six months back my dentist in Phoenix said I had 4 spots she wanted to watch, not cavities yet, just watch. So I grabbed a cheap electric brush on sale for $30 and used it twice a day, two minutes on a timer, nothing special. Went back last month and she poked around and told me those spots looked stable, plus my gums bled way less than usual. Honest take: the brush did more for me than the fancy floss I was using before. The thing that sold me was the timer, because I was clearly quitting at like 45 seconds with the manual. Anyone else make the switch late and actually stick with it, or did you go back to manual?
My arm clearly thought two minutes meant "whenever my wrist gets tired," which was apparently around 40 seconds. Same deal as you, the timer was the real winner for me, not the buzzing or the fancy brush head. I kept telling myself I was doing a great job with the manual brush for years, and then my gums would bleed every single cleaning like clockwork. Swapped to a cheap electric one about a year ago and haven't looked back once. Turns out my "great technique" was just me scrubbing like I was trying to sand a table.
