A gauge gives you a real number to work with, which is why max_schmidt77 made the switch. The pop tester is fine for a quick check, but it's not the full story.

That Phoenix guy sounds a bit dramatic. A pop tester gets you the basic pressure reading you need. Honestly, changing your whole routine over one comment seems like an overreaction.
