Almost reused a torque-to-yield head bolt on a customer's 6.7 Cummins, that was a $3,800 mistake waiting to happen
I was dead set on reusing the old bolts to save the guy some cash until my shop lead in Bakersfield pulled up the spec sheet and showed me they stretch past spec on the first pull. Went with new bolts and a fresh gasket set instead, and the truck has been back twice since for oil changes with zero issues. Anyone else ever get tempted to cut that corner on a job where the customer is watching every dollar?
