An old timer in a Wyoming parts yard showed me a trick for stuck injectors
I was pulling a set from a 6.0 Powerstroke in a scrap yard outside Cheyenne. This guy, must have been 70, saw me struggling and just said, 'Heat the body, not the threads, with a map gas torch for 30 seconds.' He tapped it with a brass punch and it came right out. I've used that method a dozen times since. Anyone else have a weird field trick that actually works?

My grandpa used a similar trick on frozen brake bleeders. He'd wrap a wet rag around the threads and hit the hex head with a torch for like 15 seconds. The temp difference makes the metal shrink at different rates and breaks it free. Works every time.

Honestly, I used to swear by soaking everything in penetrant for days. Tbh I thought heat would just wreck the aluminum. But man, that exact trick saved me on a Duramax injector last month. Ngl, I was shocked how well it worked. It's like the heat breaks the carbon seal without messing up the threads. That old guy knew his stuff.

Right? It's wild how the old-school tricks always win. Guess we should all just listen to the guy with the most grease under his fingernails!

Question whether it's really that serious though. I mean sure, it's a neat trick and it works sometimes, but I've seen guys make a big production out of a frozen bolt like they're diffusing a bomb. Half the time you can just hit it with a good penetrant and some patience. Not everything needs a torch and a wet rag. But hey, if it makes you feel like a wizard, go for it.
