Can we talk about cleaning injectors with an ultrasonic tank versus just swapping them?

I had a 6.7 Cummins with a persistent miss, and a 30 minute cycle in my Hornady tank saved the old injectors. The shop wanted to sell me a whole new set for over two grand. What's your go-to method when you suspect they're just dirty?

Craig.piper is right about the bench setup being the real fix. My buddy tried the tank clean on his Duramax injectors and it was just a band-aid, they failed a month later. Sometimes you just can't beat a proper test and rebuild.

So how do you actually tell the difference between an injector that's just got some carbon packed in the nozzle versus one that's actually worn out internally? That's the part I always struggle with, because a bench test will show you spray pattern and leakdown but a lot of guys just dunk them in the tank and hope for the best. Is there a quick way to know if the pintle or the control valve is scored before you waste an hour on a clean? I've pulled injectors that looked fine but were totally trashed on the inside, and the ultrasonic just polished a turd.

Honestly, that Hornady tank is great for a quick clean, but it's more for parts prep than a full fix. For a true injector clean, you need a proper bench setup that cycles fluid.
