Had to choose between a new injector pump or a full rebuild on a 6.7 Powerstroke
The truck came in with a rough idle and no power under load. My scan tool showed low rail pressure, and I found metal in the fuel filter. The owner gave me a hard limit of $3,000. I could either install a new aftermarket pump for about $2,800 or pull the engine to tear down and clean the entire high-pressure system for maybe $2,200 in labor, but with unknown parts costs. I went with the new pump, and it fixed the issue, but I'm still worried about leftover debris in the lines. Has anyone had a new pump fail quickly after a similar choice?

Saw a forum post about that exact worry last week.

Honestly, that whole situation reminds me of my neighbor's old Duramax. He just swapped the pump after a failure and it ran okay for a few months, then started acting up again. They ended up having to drop the tank and clean everything out anyway.

My buddy at the parts counter said he's seen three come back in a month when they didn't flush the rails. It's a real gamble.
