Roadside repair in Flagstaff turned into a full audience event

Stopped at a Love's off I-40 in Flagstaff last Tuesday to fix a blown air line on a Peterbilt. The fitting on the brake chamber had stripped, so I ended up replacing it with a 3/8 compression fitting from my truck kit. Next thing I know, three drivers walked over and one guy in an International was holding my flashlight, another handed me his crescent wrench. Has anyone else had a simple roadside fix turn into a group project with about 15 minutes of helpful advice?

Funny how a busted fitting turns into a full pit crew, last time I fixed a taillight and ended up teaching a kid how to use a torque wrench.

Three out of four times I've stopped to "help" someone at the auto parts store, I ended up replacing a sensor that wasn't even broken because they insisted. Honestly, handing a kid a torque wrench sounds like the best case scenario, most of these parking lot mechanics just want to argue about which brand of oil is better. You call it teaching, I call it opening a door to them asking you about every single bolt on their car for the next six months. Sure, it feels good in the moment, but next time you're freezing in a driveway trying to explain why their brake pads are glazed, you'll remember this post. Maybe some of us are just fine with a quick fix and a wave goodbye.
