That one time a 6.7 Powerstroke oil cooler job turned into a three day nightmare

Got a 2015 F-250 in the bay with the classic coolant in oil milkshake, figured it was a straight forward cooler swap. Broke two torx bits trying to get the turbo pedestal bolts out, then found the block threads were stripped. Had to pull the cab just to get a proper tap in there, cost the shop over $800 in extra labor we couldn't bill for. Anyone else have a 'simple' repair blow up like that on them?

Oh man, that's rough. My buddy had a similar mess with a Duramax fuel filter housing. It was supposed to be a quick swap, but a hidden bracket bolt snapped off flush. He spent a whole day just drilling it out, ended up having to pull the whole fender liner just to get a straight angle on it.

Yeah, that hidden bolt is the worst part. I mean, @maryr43, it's always the one you don't see that ruins the whole job. Drilling out a snapped bolt in a tight spot like that is a nightmare, I'd probably just walk away for a week.

Actually, pulling the liner helps a ton.
