A gallery owner told me my neon pieces looked like clip art, so I started drawing everything by hand first
Back in 2019 I was cranking out glow effects in Photoshop and slapping them on dark backgrounds, thought I was killing it. Then a guy at a small show in Portland looked at my booth for like 10 seconds and said it all read like a preset pack, not art. Now I sketch every piece on paper first and scan it in, and honestly the messy edges are the whole point. Anybody else get wrecked by one random comment that turned out to be right?
