A guy in Portland told me my shadows were flat and now I redraw every light source at least twice
I posted a piece in a critique thread about 5 months ago and someone named Dave left a comment that just said "your shadows have no direction, pick a light source and commit." At first I was mad, but then I looked at my last 12 renders and he was right, everything was lit from straight ahead like a bad passport photo. Now I do a quick thumbnail pass where I map every light source before I even open my drawing app, and it has added maybe 90 minutes to each piece but people actually comment on the mood now. Has anyone else gotten one blunt comment that reworked their whole process?
