A harsh critique about my color choices actually fixed my workflow

A gallery owner in Portland told me my pieces were 'too safe' and that I kept leaning on the same teal and orange palette. At first I was annoyed, but she was right, I had been defaulting to those colors since my Procreate days in 2019. I spent 3 months forcing myself to do studies with only cool greens and dusty pinks, and my last showcase got 3 times the engagement. Has anyone else had a critique that stung but completely changed their process?
