Am I the only one who switched from drawing every line by hand to building a brush set once?
Three months ago I was redrawing the same fur texture on every single dog portrait, which was eating 4 or 5 hours per piece. Then I spent one weekend in my apartment in Columbus building a set of 12 custom brushes in Procreate, and now that same fur takes about 40 minutes. My first run with them looked rough because the spacing was off, but after tweaking the taper on three of them the strokes finally read right. Posting the 6th piece from this set today and it's the first time I've hit a weekly upload streak since spring. What's the one brush or preset you built yourself that you'd never go back from?
I read a thread on r/Procreate a while back where someone said the same thing, that most of the time lost on repeated work comes from redoing the setup, not the drawing itself. That stuck with me because it matches what you're saying about the fur. It takes a bit of guts to stop and build the tool when you could just keep grinding out pieces. Tweaking the spacing and taper is the part nobody talks about though, and it sounds like that weekend was really more like a weekend plus some rough first tries. My own keeper is a simple tapered ink brush I made for line weight, and now every clean sketch I do starts with it.
