My digital painting looked like a melted crayon after I tried that blending brush

I downloaded a custom brush pack last night and went way too heavy on the smudge tool for a portrait, ended up with a face that looked like it was melting off the canvas. It took me like 20 minutes of undoing layers to get back to something human looking. Has anyone else had a brush or tool just totally wreck a piece in a way that was almost funny?

20 minutes of undoing? Man that's rough. I had a charcoal brush that once turned my tree into a giant black smudge that looked like a bear was sitting on it.

Giant black smudge that looked like a bear was sitting on it" oh man that made me laugh out loud. I had this one time where I was trying to do a nice galaxy background with a star scatter brush and I accidentally double clicked and the whole canvas just filled with these little dots that looked like I spilled pepper on it. Then I tried to fix it with the eraser and it just made this weird swirly mess that looked like a bad galaxy tie-dye. I swear brushes have a mind of their own sometimes.

Yeah the "bear sitting on it" thing killed me too. @jana509 that's like when you make one wrong move and suddenly your whole art piece looks like a crime scene. I've had that charcoal disaster before, except mine looked more like a giant hairy paw print after I tried to smudge it out. Brushes are definitely out to get us sometimes, like they know exactly when you're almost done and just wreck everything. At least with digital you can undo, but 20 steps back is still brutal.
