PSA: Lost 3 hours of progress on a digital painting when my tablet battery died mid-brushstroke

I was working on a commissioned portrait in Procreate on my iPad and the battery hit zero without warning, which corrupted the auto-save file. Has anyone else dealt with software that doesn't properly recover unsaved layers after a hard shutdown?

Man, that sucks. Did the file just vanish completely or did it open with some weird corrupted layers you could salvage?

Yeah, "on you for not saving manually" - guilty as charged. I've lost count of how many times I've been working on something for two hours and the autosave was set to every 59 minutes. The one time I actually needed it to kick in, the program picked that exact moment to have a stroke. At this point I should just get a tattoo on my arm that says "control S every 5 minutes.
