Warning: the lighting setup at the Riverside Pavilion almost ruined my showcase
I was setting up for the art fair last Saturday at the Riverside Pavilion and the overhead lights were casting these harsh shadows on every canvas. I spent 45 minutes re-angling my pieces before realizing I needed to bring my own clip-on lamps, which I didn't have. A vendor next to me said, "You gotta test your display the night before, not the morning of." Now I always check the venue's light plan online and carry two battery strips in my bag. Has anyone else run into tricky lighting at a specific hall or convention center?

Honestly I kind of liked the challenge at Riverside, it pushed me to arrange my pieces with the shadows in mind and they ended up looking moodier than I planned. I get why someone would call it a headache, but for me it became part of the art itself. Maybe I got lucky with the stuff I brought that day, but sometimes you just gotta work with what the room gives you.
