Appreciation post: my $30 miter box beat my $180 power saw on baseboard for a 12 foot wall
I had 12 feet of baseboard to cut in my hallway last Saturday and my power miter saw kept chipping the ends, so I dug out the old manual miter box my dad gave me and it came out cleaner on the first try. Turns out the slow hand cut let me sneak up on my pencil line instead of blasting through it, and I only needed a few swipes of sandpaper at the corner. Does anyone else keep a cheap hand tool around for the cuts where the fancy one keeps messing up?

Man, that slow hand cut thing is so real. I still use my grandpa's old Stanley hand plane on door edges because the power planer just tears out the grain no matter how light I go. With a sharp blade and a slow pass you can actually feel when it's about to grab. Fancy tools are fast but they don't let you back off at the last second.
