Can we talk about the guy at Home Depot who told me I was doing it all wrong

I was in the lumber aisle picking out 2x4s for a simple shelf project and this older gentleman walks up and starts telling me I'm grabbing the wrong wood. He said you need kiln dried for indoor stuff and pointed me to a whole different section. I stood there for ten minutes listening to him explain grain direction and moisture content. Has anyone else had a random stranger completely change your approach on a simple build?

Nah, that guy was just bored and wanted someone to talk at.

My brother used to pull this exact thing every holiday dinner. I always figured he was just lonely and wanted connection, but last Thanksgiving I watched him do it at the dinner table then walk away without even saying goodbye to anyone. That's when it clicked for me. There's a difference between wanting to talk to someone and wanting someone to sit there and absorb your thoughts without pushing back. Nobody in our family realized it sooner because he always seemed friendly enough. Have you ever had that moment where you realized someone wasn't actually interested in a conversation with you?
