Debate with my neighbor about pressure treated wood vs cedar for a deck
My neighbor Jim insists pressure treated wood is the only way to go for a deck that lasts, but I saw a cedar deck at a park last week that's been there 15 years and still looks solid. He says the chemicals in pressure treated stuff are fine now, but I'm worried about warping after a few seasons here in Portland. Anyone dealt with both and got a real preference?

Idk, I remember reading somewhere that cedar holds up better in wet climates like Portland because it naturally resists rot and bugs. Pressure treated is still good for ground contact stuff but I've heard people say the newer treatments can actually make the wood more prone to cracking if it goes through a lot of rain and sun cycles. Maybe it's just me but I'd rather have a deck that looks decent after a few years instead of fighting warped boards.

Wish my deck looked half as good as the one I built three summers ago that's now a warped mess.
