I swapped my caulking technique after seeing my neighbor's bathroom.

I used to just run a bead and smooth it with my finger. It always looked kinda messy but I figured that was just how it was. Then my neighbor showed me his bathroom he did with a little spray bottle of soapy water and a popsicle stick. The lines are so clean and sharp I couldn't believe it. Anyone else have a simple trick that made them feel like an idiot for not trying it sooner?

Right? I'm over here thinking I'm Bob freakin' Villa just using my thumb and a damp rag. Turns out I've been doing everything wrong my whole adult life. What's next, I shouldn't be using a butter knife to tighten screws?

Blame my butter knife collection for every crooked screw in this house. Actually the butter knife is probably better than the wet finger. I used a wet rag once and ended up with caulk smeared across three cabinets. Looked like a modern art project nobody asked for. My dad saw it and asked if a snail did the work. So yeah soapy water is a game changer for me too.

Wait, you don't just use your finger? I've been doing the wet finger method my whole life and my caulking looks like a toddler did it. The soapy water trick sounds amazing though. I'm gonna try it this weekend on my kitchen backsplash where the old caulk is all cracked and yellow.
