Just realized the older guy at the lumber yard saved me from a huge mistake
I was loading up plywood for a subfloor and he asked if I had accounted for the joist direction - turns out I had them all lined up wrong, and he showed me the proper layout right there in the parking lot. Has anyone else had a random stranger at a supply yard catch something that would have cost you days of work?

That guy probably saved you from turning your subfloor into a trampoline for mice and mold. Good thing he caught it before you nailed down a masterpiece of regret. Hope you bought him a coffee or at least a pack of smokes for his trouble.

Yeah, did that guy get a coffee at least? Had a similar thing happen when I was laying tile in my bathroom. A friend stopped by, looked at the subfloor, and said it felt spongy in one corner. I thought it was fine but he was right, there was a soft spot from an old leak I missed. Ripped up two sheets of plywood, replaced the rotted stuff, and saved myself from having tiles crack a year later. Bought him a six pack and promised to never diy without a second set of eyes again.
